This book is about a 16 year-old boy, named Finn Duggie. His father "Mr Druggie" went on trial for manslaughter and Finn left Ngamea at any chance he had, he gave boarding school in Auckland a go, meeting a 'new girl' Mia, an new enemy, Edward and a couple new friends, Hobbsie and Andy. Mia invited him to their school ball. Things went down at an after-ball that was not allowed, Hobbsie,
Andy and Finn's best friend, drowned. As the ambulance arrived at the after-ball, he was dead, never to breathe again. Everyone was terrified, crying and also scared. Scared of what was going to happen. When the police had arrived, they were to stay in the property and no one was to leave.
Finn's father's trial was the next day and Finn wasn't going to let this happen to his father. Andy and Finn went to Ngamea that day, Finn told him and the lawyer that it was him that hit the girl, he had the spare key and slammed it down on the table...
I'd recommend this book to people around the ages of 15-17 years. It is about teen lives, choices and consequences. The story grabbed me right from the start. This book was recommended to me by English teacher, Mr Smeaton. I read it as part of the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards Literary Challenge 2013.
