This is a story about a teenage girl, Mallory who has to change her life after the death of her boyfriend, Brian that she caused, but it as self-defence. The plot evolves as she moves away from her home, family and best friend, Colleen. Mallory now has to learn about what it's like to be a part of a private school, where she finds an old friend Reid there. He helps Mallory settle in and their friendship grows, and they become very close.
Through all of this, Mallory hears a 'boom, boom, boom' in her head, a voice saying 'wait' and a handprint that mysteriously appears on her shoulder she believes that she is being haunted by Brian, so needs to take sleeping pills so that she can sleep. Mallory's friend, Colleen comes to visit, together they find out a few things that happen at school with some of the students 'secrets' that come to light. Colleen gets hurt, Mallory feels responsible, and through all of what happens finally learns what's been haunting her, and why ...
The storyline is built up of two-stories-in one, the 'before' story that brought Mallory to the Monroe Prep School in the first place, then as the story unravels, it all begins to make more sense, but not what you think. Mallory's past ends up helping others. If are the sort of reader that gets into teenage 'Hysteria', then this book is for you.
