Earth girl is set in the future, around the year 2788. It’s about an 18 year old girl, Jarra who in an interplanetary society was labelled a Handicap (or planetary slang, ‘Ape’), due to an immune system that doesn’t allow her and others like her survive anywhere else but
Earth. Jarra devises a plan to apply for a Pre-History course at University Asgard. But she can’t let any of the Norms (planetary slang, ‘Exos’) know that she is a Handicap; so she lies about who she, her friends, and family are. Meet Jarra from Military Command. She later finds out that her lies are actually true: her true parents are Military, and had to give her up to Earth because of her dysfunctional immune system. No sooner that she finds out about them, she gets notice that they both die on another planet while on duty.
At University Asgard, Jarra learns about other students on her course, the exos; and about Earth’s History before the Exodus to other planets, through Dig Sites, much like Archaeologist’s we have today. She soon lets her tutor, Playdon know she has had experience with Dig sites, and also has a pilot’s licence. Because of her experience with Dig Sites, she is given the placement as Tag Leader, a person that has a ‘life-line’ attached to them and tags rubble from caved in buildings of what was the old New York. A Tag-Leader needs a Tag-Support, someone who a Tag Leader can trust with their life; to pull you out when things get dangerous in the site. Meet Tag-Support, Fian, from Hercules. On a Dig Site excursion, another dig team, Cassandra 2 have been caught in a cave-in and Asgard 6, Jarra’s prehistory class, are the teams that rescue them. Jarra and Fian become heroes. As tradition is very strong on dig sites, Jarra and Fian are invited to Cassandra 2’s dome to accept a gift and thanks from the team. Jarra receives her very own impact suit. A once in a 100 year event takes place, a solar storm, a Carrington Event. This temporarily takes out the Earth Portal Network, stranding both Jarra & Fian with the Cassandra 2 team. It is here that Fian & Jarra begin a Twoing Contract, but does it still happen? Can Fian get over
Jarra’s lies? The Carrington Event proves to be stronger than first thought. The Military crews manning the solar power arrays need to disconnect them for safety reasons, now rendering Earth with no power. The crews need to evacuate in
ships to avoid intense radiation levels. Five ships disband, one crashes in the Old New York Dig site and both Jarra & Fian are recruited to help with a large rescue attempt to save the people buried amongst the rubble in the ship and not for her or Fian to get hurt while doing it, but things don’t always go to plan as Jarra finds out …
You will find a whole new futuristic language come through this story, once you understand what it all means, it’s a great read. Great for those who are into futuristic, space, interplanetary reading.
