l loved this storyline about how 15 year-old Simone and her family (supporters of the French Resistance) help a fallen New Zealand airman, Paul, through German-occupied France during World War II. They had to avoid being captured while assisting Paul to safety. It's about the race against time, split loyalities, betrayal, defiance, fear, quick thinking, and some loved ones who pay a high price.
This is a story that although fictional, is based on some of Tricia Glensor's (NZ author) father's experiences as he recorded them in his diary. Of how a legendary family, the Fillerin's) sheltered her father in 1942 and helped him escape.
I found it an easy straightforward story to read, with great detail, twists and turns that kept you hooked. It had you feeling as though you were a part of it.
