Personal Response:
One part of ‘Southern Lights’ I liked was when the people ‘dressed Tama-Rereti’s body in a fine cloak’. I liked this because it showed that even after he died Tama-Rereti maintained his mana/respect. That is how I think all dead people should be treated, with respect.
I learnt from this story that if you believe in your views others will follow. This was shown when ‘seventy young chiefs’ volunteered to go on the journey with Tama-Rereti. I hope that if I have a passion for something, others will be prepared to support me with it.
