The main idea of the story is Tracy Beaker a girl that lives in a child shelter, her mum is an actress and had to leave Tracy behind. Tracy think's playing the main part in the school play might make her mum want her back.

Tracy Beaker made a strong reaction because she is a loud, funny character. She lives in a child's shelter, she likes to call 'Dumping grounds' because kids get dumped there when their mum's or dad's don't want them. Tracy beaker is an amazing young girl.
