The main idea of the story is tat of survival at any costs. The story is set during World War 2, and it follows the trials and hell of the holocaust. The main character survived 10 concentration camps where he was starved, tortured and work mercilessly for the sin of being a Jew in Poland, yet he survived.

Yonek Gruener was born as a Jewish boy in Poland, 1930s. He is subjected to the cruelty of the Nazi's as they proceeded to exterminate the Jews. Yonek has everyone and everything brutally snatched from him. But he refuses to lay down and die, by following and playing the Nazi's twisted games he wins by living through them.

Something unique about this book is that it is a true story of a young boy surviving
the horrors of war and the Nazi Rule. We are able to see the horrible world that he witnessed by struggling on and not giving in and dying.
